This document is a starting template based on how the app currently works. It is not legal advice — we recommend having it reviewed by a legal professional before publishing, especially before submitting to app stores, since store requirements (Apple App Store, Google Play) may require specific additional disclosures.

1. Overview

ChemBase is a chemistry reference and calculator app designed for SPM and IGCSE students, built to work primarily offline. The core reference content (periodic table, chemical formulas, reactions, tests, glossary, and calculators) is bundled with the app and does not require an internet connection or any account to use. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email address, or any personal identifying information through the app's core features.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

We want to be direct about what ChemBase does not do:

  • We do not require or collect your name, email address, or phone number
  • We do not require account creation or login
  • We do not track your location
  • We do not collect or store the content of your searches, bookmarks, or calculator inputs on any external server — this data stays on your device (see Section 3)
  • We do not sell any information to third parties

3. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

To provide features like Bookmarks, History, and your language preference (English/Bahasa Malaysia), ChemBase stores a small amount of data locally on your device only, using standard device storage. This data:

  • Never leaves your device or gets transmitted to us
  • Is only accessible within the app itself
  • Can be cleared at any time by clearing the app's data/cache through your device settings, or by using the "Clear History" option within the app where available
  • Is deleted automatically if you uninstall the app

4. Advertising (Google AdMob)

ChemBase displays banner advertisements through Google AdMob to support the app being offered free of charge. AdMob may collect and process certain technical information to serve and measure ads, which can include:

  • Device identifiers (such as your device's advertising ID)
  • General technical information (device type, operating system version, general non-precise location such as country/region inferred from IP address)
  • Ad interaction data (such as whether an ad was viewed or clicked)

This data collection is performed by Google as the advertising provider, governed by Google's own privacy policy, which you can review at: policies.google.com/privacy

You may be able to limit ad personalization through your device's operating system settings (e.g. "Limit Ad Tracking" on iOS, or "Opt out of Ads Personalization" in Android's Google Settings).

5. Children's Privacy

ChemBase is intended for a general audience aged 13 and older, consistent with the app's audience declaration on the app stores. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the address below so we can address it.

6. Third-Party Services

Aside from Google AdMob (Section 4), ChemBase does not integrate with other third-party services that collect personal data as of this version. If this changes in a future update (for example, adding analytics or crash-reporting tools), this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly, and the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect that change.

7. Data Security

Since ChemBase does not transmit personal data to external servers as part of its core functionality, the main data security consideration is the locally stored data described in Section 3, which is protected by your device's own operating system security (e.g. device lock, app sandboxing).

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if we add new features that involve data collection (such as user accounts, cloud sync, or analytics in a future version). Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding any personal data processed on your behalf (primarily via Google AdMob, as described in Section 4). Since ChemBase itself does not collect or store personal data on external servers, most such rights are best exercised through Google's own privacy controls (see Section 4) or your device's advertising settings.
